Founder & Managing Director
Dr. Gerd Datzmann
Physicist and independent scientific consultant at the interface of accelerator science, research infrastructures and industry.
Dr. Gerd Datzmann combines more than 25 years of experience in particle accelerator technology and applied nuclear physics with over twelve years in high-technology industry and more than a decade of independent scientific consulting.
As founder and managing director of Datzmann interact & innovate — DINI — he supports irradiation facilities, research organisations, industrial users and collaborative projects in turning complex scientific capabilities into clear decisions, accessible services and effective cooperation.

The Perspective Behind DINI
Scientific depth.
Industrial experience. Strategic understanding.
Dr. Datzmann’s work is shaped by a distinctive combination of scientific expertise, industrial experience and in-depth business understanding. This enables him to assess technical questions in their wider context — including demand, access, implementation, stakeholder interests and long-term viability.
Specialist expertise with an independent perspective
Scientific Foundation
fter studying Technical Physics at the Technical University of Munich, Dr. Datzmann completed his doctorate on the construction and characterisation of the SNAKE high-energy scanning ion microprobe. He subsequently continued his work in accelerator and ion-beam physics as a postdoctoral researcher at TUM.
Industrial Experience
From 2003 to 2015, he served as Head of Physics at the Rinecker Proton Therapy Center (RPTC), gaining more than twelve years of experience in a commercial, accelerator-based high-technology environment.
His work on the planning, installation, commissioning and optimization of a pilot proton therapy system provided Dr. Datzmann with extensive technical expertise in accelerator technology, system integration, testing, safety, efficiency and reliability optimization. At the same time, coordinating manufacturers, technical teams, authorities and clinical stakeholders strengthened his ability to manage complex technical projects across disciplines and professional groups
Business & Innovation
An Executive MBA in Innovation and Business Creation complements his scientific background with a structured perspective on markets, business models, technology transfer and cooperation between research and industry.
University–Industry Cooperation
Dr. Datzmann conducted an in-depth study on radiation hardness testing, based on 30+ expert interviews with European irradiation facilities, industry users and space agencies. His research focused on the factors that enable or hinder successful science–industry cooperation and formed the basis of his Master’s thesis within the Executive MBA program at the Technical University of Munich.
This work forms an important foundation for DINI’s understanding of effective science–industry collaboration.
Expertise in Practice
Where this experience creates value
Today, Dr. Datzmann works with organisations that require both technical understanding and an independent perspective on market, service, access and collaboration questions. His contribution is shaped around the decision to be made and the project stage — not around a standard consulting package.

Facilities & Research Infrastructures
Independent evidence and practical strategies for understanding demand, developing professional services and improving the user experience.

Industry & Research Users
Structured identification and comparison of irradiation facilities based on technical, operational, regulatory and commercial requirements as well as user-oriented service provision.

Research Projects & Networks
Support for technology transfer, proposal preparation, exploitation, industry engagement, project coordination and the design and facilitation of specialist workshops.

GSI — From scientific capability to paid service
Over approximately 18 months, Dr. Datzmann supported the development of a business model for Radiation Hardness Testing with high-energy heavy ions. The assignment covered market and user research, competitive analysis, business and financial modelling, pricing, implementation planning and communication. In 2025, GSI hosted its first paid pilot campaigns for four external companies from Europe and US.
G-RADNEXT workshop series — A recurring forum for the community
From 2022 to 2026, Dr. Datzmann led the organisation of five consecutive international G-RADNEXT workshops, bringing irradiation facilities together with industrial and academic users, public organisations and space agencies.
BMBF ErUM — Strengthening industrial access to research
Between 2019 and 2022, Dr. Datzmann conducted a three-year technology-transfer study on industrial access to particle-beam instruments at four large-scale research facilities. The work combined structured stakeholder interviews, service portfolio development, company identification and practical concepts for attracting new industrial users.
